Representatives of Amparo y Justicia participated in a congress on child abuse and maltreatment in San Diego, United States

With the participation of board members and the team from Fundación Amparo y Justicia, the 40th Annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment was successfully initiated and concluded.

This event brought together over 1,400 participants from 19 countries and 250 international experts, who shared valuable knowledge on the investigation of deaths of children and adolescents, as well as on the prevention, recognition, assessment, investigation, and treatment of child maltreatment.

Fundación Amparo y Justicia actively participated in this forum as part of its commitment to the “Intersectoral Group for the Prevention and Investigation of Homicides of Children and Adolescents,” an initiative aimed at strengthening interinstitutional cooperation to prevent and investigate suspicious deaths and homicides of minors.

Throughout the conference, prominent experts such as Katherine Maloney, forensic pathologist at the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office (Buffalo, New York); Thomas Biesty, attorney for the Unit on Unsolved Homicide Cases, Organized Crime, and Human Trafficking (Chicago); James C. Holmes, Special Agent (ret.) of the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation; and Aaron Tomlinson, program administrator at the National Criminal Justice Training Center, shared their experiences and knowledge on criminal investigation and best practices in handling child maltreatment cases.

This event, which represented a valuable opportunity to learn and strengthen collaborative networks, allowed participants to deepen their understanding of innovative approaches to addressing this issue and reaffirmed Fundación Amparo y Justicia’s commitment to protecting the children and adolescents of our country.
