Fundaci\u00f3n Amparo y Justicia Statistics Center (CEFAJ) is a digital and free tool that allows to see data about reported sex crimes, and their response from the judiciary, on a straightforward and interactive platform.<\/em><\/p>\n

Fundaci\u00f3n Amparo y Justicia has launched CEFAJ with the goal of facilitating access to information through digital innovation. It is the first open platform that shows statistics on sex crimes against children and teens in Chile. By using data from the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office, requested by the Transparency Act, CEFAJ provides information about reports filed, criminal prosecution outcomes, and their development over time, including information such as case information and status. \u201cThis digital tool is essential to understand the extent of these crimes, and to provide evidence that makes it easier to track them,\u201d says Mar\u00eda Elena Santib\u00e1\u00f1ez Torres, Director of Amparo y Justicia. Santib\u00e1\u00f1ez also highlights that CEFAJ offers different benefits for institutions and actors in the criminal justice system, but also for a general audience. The platform democratizes data access, which is essential to improve knowledge about sex crimes against children and teens.Nicol\u00e1s Pietrasanta, head of Public Studies and Policies at the Foundation, further states that CEFAJ \u201cprovides independent data separated by variables, such as age, gender, region, and crime type, to make a detailed and specific analysis. This makes it possible, among other things, to reduce the time and effort needed to analyze, visualize, and access data, so it can be used to support decision-making and create public policies.\u201d CEFAJ\u2019s official launch took place this Friday, August 2, in an event broadcasted via streaming. Different experts and authorities participated in the conversation panel to highlight the importance of this initiative and to address the main challenges related to sex crimes against children and teens in Chile. The event was attended by Mat\u00edas Walker, Senate Vice President and member of the Family, Childhood and Adolescence Commission; Karen Guzm\u00e1n, Director of Specialized Unit for Sexual Crimes and Sexual Exploitation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office; and Catalina Droppelmann, Executive Director of the UC Justice and Society Studies Center and professor at the School of Government. The event was moderated by Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez, editor of the Innovation section of El Mercurio newspaper.
