A new meeting of the Intersectoral Group is held to strengthen the system’s response to suspicious deaths and homicides of children and adolescents

Loreto Moore, Executive Director of Fundación Amparo y Justicia, highlighted that the members of this working group are jointly developing a diagnosis for the prevention and investigation of this type of death.

With the participation of representatives from various State institutions, the fourth session of the Intersectoral Group for the Prevention and Investigation of Homicides of Children and Adolescents (NNA) was held.

The goal of this working group, coordinated by Fundación Amparo y Justicia, is to strengthen interinstitutional collaboration to prevent and investigate suspicious deaths and homicides of children and adolescents. It also aims to identify and analyze the causes, risk factors, warning signs, and opportunities for improvement in the prevention and investigation of violent deaths and homicides of this specially protected group.

Through joint efforts, the aim is to strengthen actions that contribute to improving the prevention, investigation, and handling of these cases, through coordination between public and private entities. In addition, the goal is to design, implement, and evaluate measures for the short, medium, and long term, ensuring their alignment with national and international standards.

Finally, it is expected to position this issue as a national priority, raising awareness among key stakeholders and the public about the importance of a coordinated and effective response.

In October 2024, the first meeting was held with authorities and representatives from each institution, as well as with international experts in criminal investigation of homicides of children and adolescents. In turn, Amparo y Justicia organized a seminar with over 500 attendees alongside the launch of a diagnostic study on the country’s situation.

Throughout 2025, monthly meetings will be held that will allow, in the words of Loreto Moore, Executive Director of Fundación Amparo y Justicia, “to continue jointly developing, among all members of the Intersectoral Group, a diagnosis for the prevention and investigation of this type of death.”
