Seventh session of the Intersectoral Group: Identifying problems and root causes

With great success and strong attendance, the seventh session of the Intersectoral Group for the Prevention and Investigation of Homicides of Children and Adolescents was held at the premises of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

During this session, representatives from 11 institutions across the justice, protection, health, and education systems worked collaboratively to identify and classify the problems and root causes that hinder the system’s ability to prevent and investigate suspicious deaths and child homicides. This process is part of the assessment the group has been developing since October 2024.

Regarding the work carried out, Carolina Sobarzo, sociologist and researcher at Fundación Amparo y Justicia, stated: “We are now in the seventh session of the Intersectoral Group and in the final stage of the assessment. The participation of 11 institutions from the justice, protection, health, and education sectors has allowed us to build a systemic view of the situation. Critical issues have emerged that would not have been visible from a single perspective, and common elements—widely recognized by all actors—have also been identified. Thanks to this joint effort, we now have evidence to support and use as input to address their root causes.”

This group of professionals meets monthly with the aim of advancing concrete actions that contribute to clarifying these crimes and improving interagency coordination.
